President's Message
"Space, Place, Heritage, Identities, Education and Cohesion" are all on
the program for our meeting at Bishop's and Sherbrooke. And what a program
it is! Gregory Reid, with Jonathan Rittenhouse, Bruce Barton, and
Rosalind Kerr have done a fantastic job of organizing and arranging the
papers, panels, and other events that should make this year's gathering
consistent with ACTR/ARTC's tradition of excellence. What I find most re-
assuring and exciting is the large number of scholars who submit proposals
to us and I am even more impressed with the diversity of topics. It is
that which makes ACTR/ARTC such an important group: we interpret
"Theatre Research" to include all aspects of the art and encourage the
practicing artists, playwrights, academics, students, and independent
scholars alike to participate.
Please plan to attend this year's meeting, bring a friend, and help
us plan the direction of your association. There is a lot of work to be
done, not least of which is to promote theatre research and collectively
lobby the funding authorities to allocate more money to the humanities
and social sciences.
See you in Lennoxville and Sherbrooke
