2000 Festival of Original Theatre (F.O.O.T)

at the University of Toronto's Graduate Centre for Study of Drama March 22-26, 2000

Call For Play Scripts: Theme: "Theatrical Time and Space in the New Millennium"

The artistic directors of the 2000 F.O.O.T Festival are now accepting play script  submissions  for its eighth annual theatre festival.  The theatrical performance program is designed to encourage both emerging and established playwrights to showcase their work.  F.O.O.T. does this by matching your script with a director, crew and cast (if desired) who will produce your play for three performances during the festival.  F.O.O.T.'s other activities include: academic panels on theatre and performance, theatre workshops, and film screenings.

While the festival's theme suggests peering into theatre's future, we are equally interested in exploring how we got here, and how the future will mark itself off from the past.  In keeping with this double perspective, scripts submitted should be concerned with one or more of the following topics:

History and Memory (public vs. private, memory and subjectivity, etc.)
Theatre and Education in the New Millennium
   Exile and Transnationality
   Corporeality and Cyborgs
Textuality (translation, textuality vs orality, New Media, etc.)
Drama/Theatre in/and Education in the New Millennium

Deadline:  Three copies of the script for plays lasting no longer than forty minutes, as well as a statement that outlines the play's relationship to one or more of the festival's sub-themes, must be submitted by November 15, 1999 to
