Ches Skinner announced plans to update the promotions brochure
and internet site. He cited the continuing need to encourage new memberships.
He also noted the executive's intention to find more efficient ways of
communicating than the use of ongoing emails.

John Poulsen reminded everyone that membership in the ACTR/ARTC
must be renewed annually (except for the honourary members). There was
discussion about some of the confusion over membership timing.

6.5 ACTR Newsletter/ARTC Bulletin de liaison -- [see

Glen Nichols: General goals were to continue Kathy Chung's work in
creating a more diverse Newsletter with items of varying relationship to
the membership (in addition to the strictly informational/official capacity);
eg. memorial pieces, op-eds, short research notes etc.
One major goal was to improve balance of French & English
in the Newsletter, and this has been, and continues to be worked on. Use
of translator: With translation school as part of our faculty, I have access
to translation students which can be remunerated out of the relative savings
incurred in local production.
Modifications to electronic distribution, including email and
www site have enabled easier electronic access.
Finally I'd like to thank the members of the exec and the various
head of committees for their speedy and helpful submission of reports...
and remind everyone that I need copies of their reports for the Fall Newsletter...
Also a big thanks to John Poulsen for the timely and accurate membership
lists and updates.
Objectifs généraux importaient sur la continuation de
l'oeuvre de Kathy Chung en créant un Bulletin de Liaison un peu
plus diversifié (en plus des textes d'information et d'opinion);
Ex : note d'une courte recherche, texte mémorial, éditorial
etc.
Un des objectifs majeur du Bulletin de liaison était de
créer une égalité entre le français et l'anglais
et c'est un projet qui continue à évoluer. Un traducteur
: Comme la traduction fait partie de notre faculté, j'ai accès
aux services des étudiants qui seront rémunérés
à l'aide des économies réalisées de la production
locale.
De plus, grâce à une amélioration de la distribution
électronique l'accès sera grandement facilité.
Ceci inclue en premier lieu le courrier électronique et les sites
www.
Finalement, j'aimerais surtout remercier les membres de l'exécutif
et les président.e.s de comités pour la vitesse et l'utilité
des rapports…de plus, je tiens à vous informez que j'aurai besoin
de vos rapports pour le Bulletin de liaison de l'automne… Ni le moindre,
un gros merci à John Poulsen pour la ponctualité et la précision
de la liste des membres.

according to language, unless the presenters involved prefer a thematic

Joël Beddows suggéra aussi une motion qui ferait que le bilinguisme passif (l'habileté de comprendre la deuxième langue officielle, soit français ou anglais) serait un critère d'acceptation au bureau d'exécutif. Cette discussion emporta certaines consternations sur les effets que cela emporterait sur les membres de langue anglaise, si ce devrait être un point de changement constitutionnel, le problème et la volonté de résoudre la question de langue et si il y aurait un moyen moins restrictif d'énoncer la proposition. Ric Knowles exprima le vouloir d'appuyer la mention de ce point. Greg Reid suggéra qu'une motion puisse avoir le même effet si elle disait : " Les langues de fonctions des membres de l'exécutif sont le français et l'anglais. Le CFF va considérer le cumulatif de cette discussion et présentera une motion pour considération à la prochaine rencontre. Une fois préparée, la motion sera publiée dans le Bulletin.
Joël Beddows suggested a motion making passive bilingualism (the ability to understand the second language of either French or English) as a criteria for membership to the executive. Discussion of this point raised concerns of effects on the current English- speaking membership numbers, the possible attraction of francophone members, whether this was a point for constitutional change, the factors of willingness and ability in solving the language issue, and whether there might be a less restrictive way of phrasing the proposition. Ric Knowles expressed willingness to second a notice of motion on this point. Greg Reid suggested a motion could create the same effect if it read something like "The working languages of the executive are French and English". The CFF will consider the outcome of this discussion and present a motion for consideration at the next AGM. When it is prepared, the notice of motion will be published in the Newsletter.
6.10 FIRT/IFTR: no report /aucun rapport
Ches Skinner informed the assembly that the Association is allowed
to designate up to three members as official representatives at the annual
FIRT/IFTR conference.
Anton Wagner informed the assembly that with the completion of the
World Encyclopdia, Don Rubin was stepping down as editor and that FIRT/IFTR
had expressed interest in taking over editorship of a possible second edition.
Anton asked whether there was interest in this Association to maintain
the Canadian base of operations for this project.
Ches Skinner informa l'assemblée que l'Association peut
désigner trois membres comme représentants officiels au colloque
annuel de la FIRT/IFTR.
Anton Wagner déclara qu'avec l'achèvement du "
World Encyclopedia ", Don Rubin démissionna comme éditeur

de la deuxième édition. Anton demanda s'il y avait
