IFTR 13th WORLD CONGRESS
The University of Kent at Canterbury, July 6-12, 1998

ACTR was well represented at the World Congress in Canterbury: Jennifer Harvie, Anne Nothof, Catherine Graham, Richard Knowles, James Hoffman, Kym Bird, Reid Gilbert, Helen Peters, Denise Lynde, and Susan Bennett participated in a variety of presentations in critical analysis, performance theory, Shakespeare, audiences, and colonialism/post-colonialism.

Established Working Groups met before and during the conference, discussing work-in-progress on feminist research, performance analysis and historiography, comparative production studies, community plays, choreography and corporeality, the theatrical event, and Samuel Beckett. Performances included Ionesco's "The Chairs" in Swedish, and "Noh: Thomas Beckett" by Kuniyoshe Munakata, which was followed by a discussion with the audience on the traditions of Noh.

Nominations for the next president of IFTR/FIRT include Josette Feral (Canada), Freddie Rokem (Israel), and Maria Shevtsova (UK). Helen Peters has served on the Executive for the past three years

The international mandate of the federation is reflected in the location of the annual conference. The proposed sites for future conferences are New Delhi, Sidney, South Africa, and Japan. ACTR has an institutional membership in IFTR/FIRT, but individual membership is invited. Please send requests for membership to: Miss Kay McDonnell, Membership Secretary, IFTR, Flat 9, 118 Avenue Road, Acton London W3 8QG
