Julie Salverson will chair this panel and provide links between the
presenters. She will also speak about her work on a new play The Haunting
of Sophie Scholl, presented as the autumn major production at the Queen’s
Department of Drama. The play is a story about a contemporary student trying
to have a memorial created on campus to Sophie and Hans Scholl, university
students who resisted Hitler in 1943 and were executed. The timing of the
play - rehearsals began in mid-September - created a potent collision between
what it meant to be a young person under National Socialism, and the critical
questions which faced these Queen's students and faculty in the wake of
September 11.
