Joint Session : Religion & Theatre in Canada

Organiser, Moira Day, University of Saskatchewan

This panel will explore the dynamic intersection of religion and theatre as shaped within or by Canada, past and present, as a geographical, human and conceptual reality.  Theoretical, theological, philosophical, cultural, historical, and socio-economic issues may be explored, through literary and critical analysis of texts and/or analysis of production and performance elements.  Comparative approaches to differing religious and dramatic traditions, and explorations of the connection between Canadian and world expressions of religion in drama or theatre, are also welcome. Papers may be contributed to a forthcoming special issue of Theatre Research in Canada/ Recherches Théâtrales au Canada which will focus on religion and theatre in Canada (see the call for papers in this newsletter.
